A little over a year ago, in November 2018, I received the order confirmation email from the Association of Insurance Compliance Professionals indicating that I’d been granted membership! I’d been aware of the AICP for quite some time. The more I learned, the more I wanted to join.

I am a Product Manager here at AM Best in Oldwick, NJ. I joined AM Best in 2007. Prior to that I spent 15+ years with a large data company where I gathered and worked with local, state and federal government information on public and private businesses. That experience helped bring me to AM Best, where I work with departments of insurance around the country. We provide them with access to Best’s Regulatory Center, which provides ratings, company reports, industry news and resources to examiners, analysts and other department staff. Within three years I had the privilege of visiting every department in the lower 48 states and had built my hotel and flight status levels to the point where I could get a second bag of pretzels if I asked politely enough. I still hope to make it to Anchorage and Honolulu. Based on my interactions with state insurance departments, I was eventually assigned to manage Best’s State Rate Filings, a historical database of property/casualty state regulatory filings.

I value interacting with my customers, hearing what they like and dislike, what they use and don’t use and what tools and data they need to make their day to day jobs easier. Because my products were focused on regulators and professionals who rely on rate filing information, I came to view the AICP as an important industry resource. In 2019 I attended the Mid-Atlantic and Northwest Chapter Education Days, and the Annual Conference in Denver. Each event was a great opportunity to listen and learn about the issues and challenges clients and contacts face. I returned home with pages of notes, thoughts and ideas. I look forward to attending more “E Day” events this year.

I was recently asked to start a blog for the AICP website. I’m still exploring how I can contribute. I welcome any ideas, suggestions or questions that I, or perhaps any of my colleagues here at AM Best, might be able to address for you in future blog entries. My next post will provide an overview of the AM Best Company, who we are, what we do, and how we can help you in your work.

Thank you and I hope you have a great new year!
